Thomson Transfer Caps

Simple Aseptic Connections

Thomson Transfer Caps when used in conjunction with Optimum Growth® Flasks eliminates the need to move cells to an intermediate vessel for scale up or seed cultures. The ability to pump into the Optimum Growth® Flask makes filling with media from a bulk source a simple aseptic process. Transfer Caps in conjunction with the Thomson Optimum Growth® Flasks can be used for reagent addition, seeding of larger bioreactors or cell bags, pumping of media into flasks from large drums or bags of media and other liquid media transfers into and out of bioreactors.

Transfer Caps are compatible with the following Optimum Growth®Flasks 1.6L, 2.8L and our popular 5L.

Two Types of Transfer Caps

Inversion Transfer Caps

Utilize gravity feed for the simple aseptic transfer of media or cells into cell bags, bioreactors or flasks (from all manufacturers). Specific Inversion Transfer Caps are designed to work with 1.6L, 2.8L and 5L Thomson Optimum Growth® Flasks. Simply replace the vented flask cap included with each flask with the correct Inversion Transfer Cap and connect to your vessel of choice.

Bidirectional Transfer Caps

With downstem, utilize a peristaltic pump for easy aseptic transfer of media or cells into and/or out of bags, bioreactors, and flasks (from all manufacturers). Specific Bidirectional Transfer Caps work with the 1.6L, 2.8L, 5L, and 7L Thomson Optimum Growth® Flasks and your peristaltic pump. Simply replace the vented cap included with each flask with the appropriate Transfer Cap and connect to your vessel of choice.

Specific Inversion Transfer Caps are designed to work with 1.6L, 2.8L and 5L Thomson Optimum Growth® Flasks. Simply replace the vented flask cap included with each flask with the correct Inversion Transfer Cap and connect to your vessel of choice.

Optimum Growth® Bidirectional Transfer Caps with downstem, utilize a peristaltic pump for easy aseptic transfer of media or cells into and/or out of cell bags, bioreactors, and flasks (from all manufacturers).

Specific Bidirectional Transfer Caps work with the 1.6L, 2.8L, 5L, and 7L Thomson Optimum Growth® Flasks and your peristaltic pump. Simply replace the vented cap included with each flask with the appropriate Transfer Cap and connect to your vessel of choice.

How to Transfer or Feed

  1. In the hood replace the flask vent cap with the correctly sized Bidirectional Transfer Cap
  2. Connect to your receiving vessel by either Tube Fusing or using an available Luer Lock option
  3. Place the silicone tubing in the peristaltic pump head
  4. Liquid can then be pumped either into or out of the flask
