SINGLE StEP Amine Flash Column

Flash Chromatography is a quick and inexpensive technique for the purification of organic compounds. Thomson columns come in a wide variety of sizes ranging from 4g to 300g silica-based for easy scalability of synthetic reactions. Thomson also offers other packing material like Amine and C18 columns which will enable the end-user to utilize these columns for a broad range of reactions.

These columns are loaded with amine-bonded silica thereby affecting polarity of the stationary phase and the elution profile. As a general rule-of-thumb, compounds will elute faster on these columns as compared to standard silica columns. These columns also operate under normal phase separations i.e., 100% Hexane → 100% Ethyl Acetate (normal phase going from non-polar to increasing polarity). Amine columns are also available in a variety of sizes, ranging from 4.7gram to 353gram. General guideline for compound loading is 10% of material weight.

Mechanism of action: weak base/acid interactions. The amino group will retain the following compounds stronger: carboxylic acids, phenols, alcohols, ketones and aldehydes. Amines will be retained less strongly and often results in a good separation between two amines. Standard Silica solvent systems are applicable here as well.
